CALICO: The World of Indian Handmade Fabrics circa 2023
Art of Resistance
Matsuya Ginza 7th floor Design Gallery 1953
Bandani is a dye-resist technique in which the fabric is tied up and left undyed, allowing the patterns to stand out.
The spots and afterimage-like blurs that appear because something is left hidden are evidence of resistance as the whole moves in a different direction.
It truly shows the handiwork itself.
While highlighting tie-dye work such as bandani as a symbol of this year, we will also be showcasing fabric works that artisans have undertaken in recent years, woven and dyed clothing that artisans have worked on together with CALICO, and MAKU's autumn/winter works.
We will also be carrying clothes from Studio Medium, a Delhi-based tie-dye company.
The exhibition is part of Matsuya Ginza's "Gifts to Enjoy Winter 2023" initiative.
Please stop by.
