"Journey History 2024" at Java Sarasa Gallery Isis

With Autumn breeze, CALICO is coming to isis, Kyoto…!

I'm enjoying the autumn breeze these days.

This year's "Journey's Progress" will begin at Gallery Isis, run by Kana Ishida, who has been creating original Javanese chintz works in Java for many years.

From Isis Kana Ishida

"Kyariko textiles are somehow nostalgic, but each time they are made there is something new added to them.

Bandani, which attracted a lot of attention last year, is likely to become even more popular.

Other items that are appealing are Ajurack, a fabric with a long history that influenced Javanese chintz, and woolen items that are likely to come in handy in the fall and winter, something that you might not immediately associate with India."

Ajurack and traditional block prints, and tie-dyeing called Bandhani.

Although it may seem the same every year, each year brings different colors and fruits.

There are also items made from native cotton as well as maku's silk and wool creations.

Please come and enjoy the fabrics of the Indian subcontinent that have been passed down to modern times and are being reinvented.
