“RESURFACE”
CALICOは今回、土艸というタイトルテーマに合わせた、バグルーやカッチの染布を展示します。
バグルーの布もカッチの布も、すでに知っていると思う方が多いかもしれません。でも古布として記憶されるようなものは、想念の地層深くに沈んだまま浮かんでこないことも。
多くに紛れて失われていくそれらの布のうち、原風景的に、見てたみたかった景色（布とそれを作る営み）を改めて職人らと探求しはじめました。
知らない、いや知っているかも、できる、できない、できるかも、やっぱりできない…という会話を繰り返しながら。
今回お持ちする布はその道程の一部であり数も限られていますが、新しくはじめたプロジェクトの導入のイメージとして見ていただければ嬉しく存じます。
CALICOは、自らを作り手（アーティスト）と称したことはありませんが、共同体的なプロジェクトとして参加します。
インド亜大陸の職人らに提案し働きかけることで、個人的な表現を超えた普遍的な布の営みを未来に繋げる仕事になればと思っています。
This time we will exhibit some of hand block printed textiles from West India, mainly featuring Bagru Print by Dheeraj Chhipa and his father Rambabu Chhipa. We can say… it is a true adventure, re-exploration of traditional print…not only in the textile designs and colors, but of the materials, practices, techniques and expressions.
We never have claimed ourselves as an “artist” though, we have facilitated multiple projects with the artisans or the organizations in Indian subcontinent for years. We are participating this event as a project form, or a collective, hoping that we can create the textile culture as a long lasting practice.
