CALICO: the BHAVAN Obon business hours

CALICO: the Bhavan at the foot of Mt. Wakakusa in Nara will be closed on Wednesday, August 14th and Thursday, August 15th during the Obon festival.
We will be closed for four consecutive days from August 12th to 15th, as we are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The photo shows acharya, a cloth used as a base when printing Ajurack.
The work that was exhibited at Dejima List in Nagasaki in 2017 was exhibited again in Kagoshima for the first time in a long while.

I became obsessed with Ajurac while visiting his workshop, and this was the first piece I was given.

Perhaps because they want the focus to be on the works themselves, they have not been so forthcoming with their acharya recently (for example, by intentionally changing the sheets to cheaper materials), but I wonder how they felt when they saw us getting so enthusiastic about the unintentional randomness and abstractness of the traces.

Although it is just a fabric, there is no doubt that it is an important storyteller that conveys the fascinating aspects of Ajurak work.

Next month, Ajurak and Bandhani (tie-dye) Khatris (dyers) will visit Japan and hold CALICO: the Exhibition vol.4 “Khatris in Process” (tentative title).
We will also be holding a workshop in Nara on September 14th and 15th!

More details will be announced on social media and our website.
Please look forward to it.
