"CALICO & MAKU: A Journey Through the Weaving and Dyeing Arts of East and West India"
June 25th (Sat) - July 4th (Mon) 2022 | 11:00-19:00 | Closed on Tuesday the 28th | Kobayashi Fumie will be present on July 3rd
In addition to East Indian khadi and jamdani, which are perfect for the summer climate, store owner Kobayashi, who looks great in the dust, has a variety of West Indian dyed fabrics, such as Ajurac dyeing, which are often introduced in the autumn.
Ajurakh is a traditional dyeing technique passed down by a group of artisans who migrated from Pakistan to Kutch in Gujarat.
Today, there are artisans who are challenging, twisting and going beyond the traditional notion of Ajurak.
The photo shows the Tara (star) pattern that we are making in collaboration with Ibrahim Abdul Raheman Budha Khatri, who works on a variety of traditional patterns.
The deep green and black created by combining indigo dye, turmeric, and pomegranate is a modern color scheme that seems old-fashioned yet new.
The locals also said it was innovative.
Green is also the colour that symbolizes Muslims.
This fabric has little margin which makes it prone to stains and other errors, so you can use it without leaving any space.
