CALICO Travel report 2025 at List: (Nagasaki)

A special exhibition will be held at Nagasaki Dejima List from June 20th.
Kobayashi will also be present on the first day, the 20th.

The website introduced below has not been updated for a while due to the large number of visitors due to the World Expo, but I would like to start updating it again with information about the activities of various lands and villages in Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, etc.

CALICO Travel Report 2025

From the blog of CALICO representative Fumie Kobayashi on the new CALICO website - Village Report vol.1 (image separate)

Many craftsmen have moved on to modern methods or are in the process of moving on. As customers and markets change, so do their techniques and expressions. We are also responsible for these changes. Therefore, we must design and engage with them in the way that is best for them and their work traditions.

There are also old-fashioned craftsmen who don't care who they are asked to make or what the pattern is, but just work silently as if they are breathing. When my Indian comrades and I find such craftsmen, we exchange information with each other. I think it is our role to create jobs that such people can continue to do.

On the first day, Friday the 20th, from 5pm, Kobayashi will hold the "CALICO Travel Report 2025" (participation is optional).

Handmade textiles cultivated in various parts of the vast country of India convey the climate and history of that land, as well as the presence of the people who once lived there. This is a report session that will share the activities of Kobayashi of CALICO, who travels freely throughout India and collaborates with artisans and researchers through the design, production, and sale of handmade textiles, with photos and videos from the area.

"Fabric travels and propagates through time and space.
So that they can carry the thoughts of those who made them and be remembered as the living embodiment of those who wear them.

Fabric is a mirror that reflects our imagination.
By wearing handmade fabric
We can continue our journey.”

This year too, Kyarico and the Bengali brand MAkU TEXTILE will be bringing the modern Indian vibe to Nagasaki.
