"The Work of Weaver Shamsie" at Manrin Bookstore Storehouse Gallery (Toyoda Asuke)

We are coming to Asuke, Toyota….!

Having a special guest, Vankar Shamji Valji from Kutch, Gujarat

The exhibition began on January 10th at the Manrin Bookstore Kura-no-Naka Gallery in Asuke, Toyota City.

On January 19th, I will be visiting Asuke with weaver Shamsie.

As previously announced, the application period has now closed. Thank you very much for your many applications.

When I spoke to him on the phone today, Shamsie was excited and said he was looking forward to the cold weather.

Kobayashi: Yes, it's really cold in Japan.

Shamsie: "We have plenty of wool so it's fine!"

Indeed, I myself have survived many winters wearing only Shamsie's wool items.

I know it's okay though.

I have a feeling that this will be an interesting journey again.

Please take care not to catch a cold.

We look forward to seeing you!

Weaver Shamsie is a rare individual who, together with her traditional Indian weaving techniques and wisdom, continues to take on new challenges by innovating in materials, dyeing and weaving designs using a variety of innovative ideas.

All of his textiles are stunningly beautiful, with the fundamental beauty of the material, the colors of the dyes, and the careful handwork of the weaving all perfectly harmonizing together.

In this workshop, you will be taught by Shamsie directly, and you will spin raw wool on a spindle to make thread. You will also experience the world of Indian handicrafts, such as simple weaving and spinning single charkha thread. This is a rare opportunity, so please join us!

*The event location is up the mountain from Asuke. For those with normal tires, we will provide transportation from Asuke.

The Kuranouchi Gallery will be open from Friday, January 10th in the new year.
