This is the first special exhibition of the new year.
Fri 1/15 – Mon 1/18
"Kyariko Indian Handmade Fabric" at Kogei Fuko (Fukuoka)
Gallery Kogei Fuko, run by Takao Takagi, a leading researcher of folk art and crafts, once hosted an exhibition centered on Kanta, and this will be the first special exhibition since then.
Takagi-san, who has always kept a distance from the world of "fashion" up until now, will be introducing us to not only fabrics but also clothing this time. That alone is very exciting.
I hope that this transcending barriers will spread from Fukuoka, fitting for the start of a new year.
From 11:00 to 19:30. No breaks during the event. Our representative, Kobayashi, will be in the store during the event.
Although the COVID-19 situation is a cause for concern, we are currently planning to visit you, taking all possible precautions. However, if the situation worsens and we have to cancel the visit, we will inform you on our social media and website.
When you visit our store, please wear a mask and cooperate with quarantine measures.
Introduction by Kogei Fumiko:
"CALICO's Kobayashi Fumie reconstructs the textile work that was once practiced in many villages in India into work that is still relevant today, and presents it to us as a fresh surprise. At the last event, the main selection was fabric itself, such as Khadi (hand-spun and hand-woven cotton), Jamdani, Kantha and Ajurack dyeing, but this time, in addition to these, we will also have clothing and other items, showing us the diverse and rich world of CALICO. We hope you will pick up, touch and use the items in your daily life."
The person pressing the woodblocks is Sakurbai, a craftsman at the Sufyan Ismail Khatri workshop.
February 2019, Ajurakhpur.
