We would like to introduce some wonderful items from India and Okinawa.

In February of this year, I went to the Kutch region in the far west, a place I had always wanted to visit.
In the quiet workshop, we watched Ajurack craftsmen rhythmically pressing woodblocks,
I felt that this fabric could only be dyed in this region because of the dry climate that is unique to the desert, which is essential for making this fabric.

We had the opportunity to see CALICO's representative, Kobayashi Fumie, devoting her time and energy to creating products together with the artisans.

In this time, we who live in Japan feel grateful to be able to enjoy the benefits of beautiful and precious Indian handicrafts.
And I could feel that the Indian craftsmen are also very happy that the Japanese people are enjoying their products.
I was able to feel the cycle of joy.

Also in February in Okinawa
My family and I also visited Kainowa's workshop.

The rings are carved from a luminous shell the size of a hand's worth of shells, and are a beautiful color born from nature, with a milky white color and a hint of green.

The maker, Makoto Kawahajime, and his wife Junko were attracted to the beauty of shells and create rings, earrings, necklaces and other accessories.
This accessory makes me feel safe, as if the sea god is watching over me.
Both my husband and I carry it as a talisman.
This wish also came true,
We would like to introduce it to you at Tekla.

Along with endless travel stories,
This June's exhibition is sure to be a very exciting one.

We look forward to your visit 😊

[CALIC: the ART of INDIAN VILLAGE FABRICS]

[CALICO]
Together with artisans, production groups, and designers,
Fabrics such as Khadi (hand-spun and hand-woven cotton fabric) from the Indian subcontinent, Jamdani weaving, hand embroidery, and traditional dyeing.
Also, design activities aimed at making materials such as native cotton into a new standard.
It has been a long time since we lost the joy of touch in our daily lives.
Recovering the rich culture of fabrics and clothing,
It is also the name of a prayer to create a new world of textiles that will connect to the future.

[MAKU Textiles]

[ Designer Santanu Das's thoughts and worldview ]
Traditional Indian weaving and stitching
By refining the dyeing technique,
We want to preserve the traditions of Indian handmade textiles and the livelihoods of artisans.
MAKU does not just make and sell clothes.
Through these activities, we spread a beautiful world.

Clothing to offer a woman's beauty to God.

【Kainowa】

[Ornaments made from luminous shells and takasegai shells, Hamahiga Island, Okinawa]
There is something that shells have taught me as I have been working on manufacturing.
It means not resisting the flow of nature, but surrendering yourself to it.

Be honest with yourself.
Moving forward in the direction your mind and body desire.

In the calm sea,
A place where shells feel comfortable and nurture their natural beauty.
Because it brings out a person's individuality.

And so we arrived at Kainowa, Hamahiga Island.

Something that connects people with each other, and people with nature.

Through the Kainowa
People and nature meet,
I hope this will be an opportunity to connect.
