CALICO & MAKU: A journey through the weaving and dyeing of East and West India at OUTBOUND (Kichijoji, Tokyo)

OUTBOUND has its own brightness, whether it's summer or winter.

The same fabric looks different.

It's like experiencing the world as people saw it in a time when light sources and colors were limited.

I feel joy in overlapping the different scenes of Indian fabrics in each region.

"CALICO & MAKU: A Journey Through the Weaving and Dyeing Arts of East and West India"
June 7th (Wed) - June 26th (Mon) 2023 | 11:00-19:00 | Closed on Tuesdays 13th and 20th | Fumie Kobayashi will be present on the 7th

We will be holding an exhibition and sale at OUTBOUND featuring clothing and fabrics for daily life from CALICO: the ART of INDIAN VILLAGE FABRICS by Fumie Kobayashi, which is engaged in the continuous production of textile products suited to modern life based on respect for the traditional techniques and costumes that live on in various parts of India, as well as MAKU clothing items by Santanu Das.

This time, we will be introducing a variety of comfortable summer outfits, including CALICO's classic Rajasthani dress made from cool, lightweight khadi, a Soni dress using ajurac dyed in Sufiyan Ismail Khatri's studio, a patched shirt with a new pattern, long pants that can be rolled up to change the look, and from MAKU, a bandhani-dyed silk dress and a light jamdani-woven cotton dress.
We look forward to seeing you all.
