CALICO: The World of Contemporary Indian Handmade Fabrics circa 2022 at Matsuya Ginza

As part of Matsuya Ginza's "Gifts to Enjoy Winter", we will be holding "CALICO: The World of Contemporary Indian Handmade Textiles circa 2022".

In addition to collaborative works with leading contemporary Indian handicraft artisans, such as Ajurack by Sufiyan Ismail Khatri, who visited Japan this year, and local sheep wool items by Vankar Shamji Vishram, you can also see classic items such as maku's silk kanthal works and CALICO's denim khadi.

Please come and find some fabric that will brighten your winter mood.

The model is Matsumoto Chisa, a vegan chef from Nara called Kitchen Work.

The fabric in the back is local sheep wool with ajrak pattern by Sufiyan Ismail Khatri.

CALICO: The World of Contemporary Indian Handmade Textiles circa 2022

December 7th (Wed) - 13th (Tue) 7th floor Design Gallery 1953

Closing time: 5pm on last day

Environmental changes on the continent are more drastic than we, as an island nation, would imagine.

Many rivers and pastures have dried up, and livestock farming is rapidly disappearing.

Indian artisans work every day with ingenuity and creativity to ensure that the next thing to be lost is the textile crafts that have developed from these techniques.

Come experience the fabrics of the continent that have been passed down to the present day by the dyers Khatri and weavers Vankar of Kutch.
