3/20 Sat - 4/4 Sun "CALICO : the ART of INDIAN VILLAGE FABRICS" at Shoka : (Okinawa)

CALICO is coming to Shoka: , Okinawa...after two years...!

3/20 Sat - 4/4 Sun (closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the event) | 12:00-17:00 | 6-13-6 Hiyane, Okinawa City

This will be the first special exhibition in two years at Shoka: in Okinawa, run by Ayumi Tahara.

For me, Okinawa is a space-time located between India and the main island of Japan.

Okinawa always reminds me of a secret place in a village in southern India that only locals knew about. It reminds me that there are still pure things in this world that I cannot even imagine.

I find something similar in Indian handicrafts, though I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

The recently published "CALICO's Guide to Indian Handmade Fabrics" also includes an episode from when I visited Okinawa with Santanu of maku in 2018.

We are taking all necessary precautions against epidemics and look forward to seeing you all.

The following is an introduction by Ayumi Tahara.

---
The beauty of this spring is unparalleled.

Just gazing at the sunlight makes the scenery shine, and in the midst of living in this time of great calamity, I truly felt that happiness is something close at hand.

Eating delicious food, spending time with family, and being surrounded by things I love.

When our lives and our senses become much simpler, it becomes clear that the choices we make based on what we think is best form the foundation of our happiness.

Your daily life will be much richer if you pursue what your heart desires, rather than what is priced or what other people think.

CALICO: the ART of INDIAN VILLAGE FABRICS is run by Fumie Kobayashi, the founder, who wants to continue the work that can give people the strength to live in the future, and deliver the fabrics and clothes that are created from it to people who will choose them. It may seem like a natural thing to do, but there are not many people who can make it happen and continue it.

In Fumie's book "CALICO's Guide to Indian Handmade Fabrics," published on March 1, 2021, I felt like I saw what human life should be like.

We hope that through this book and CALICO clothing, you will be able to feel the richness of a life guided by your heart.

And above all, I want to feel the wind of this year through the fluttering khadi.

I want to see the light through the transparent thread.
