◯CALICO: the BHAVAN at the foot of Mount Wakakusa in Nara will be open until December 27th.

The photograph shows acharya, a cloth used in the Ajurack dyeing process, and samples of which are occasionally displayed at Bhavans and special exhibitions.

At one time, cheap synthetic fabrics (with stripes that for some reason didn't stand out) started to be used as a substitute, and I was very sad to think that we would never be able to see acharya like before again...However, the good news is that as complaints about the dye not soaking in properly and the feeling when pressed being different have spread, people are starting to use the original acharya again after all.

It’s important not to ignore that discomfort.

This winter we look forward to showing you the various fabrics and clothing that we have been working on across India.
