Kutch and Bengal: Contemporary Indian Handicraft Fabrics at Javanese Chinta Gallery Isis
11/19 Sat - 11/23 Wed 11:00 - 17:00
November 19th and 20th: Fumie Kobayashi will be present
Last month, Ajurack craftsman Sufiyan Ismail Khatri from Kutch in western India visited Japan for the first time in three years.
Although it was only for a short time, we also had the opportunity to stop by Kyoto together.
This time, I will be bringing items centered around autumn-colored ajurac that I planned with him.
Some of the items are made from local sheep wool and Eri silk dyed with Ajurac.
The combination of those fabrics and Ajurack looks old but is new.
Both of these fabrics are our favorites, so we specially requested them.
From Bengal in the east, we have winter items made from maku silk and wool,
There are also items made from Bengal Khadi denim and thick-gauge Khadi, which are CALICO staples all year round.
Along with the autumn leaves at their peak now, be sure to enjoy the world of autumn colors expressed through Indian fabrics.
