Mokuren, who occasionally introduces CALICO and maku in Fukuoka, will be holding his first special exhibition.
It was about 12 years ago that I met the owner and accessory designer, Toyoda Yoko.
In fact, the artists and chefs who support the activities of CALICO in Nara in various ways have been holding a series of interesting solo exhibitions and planning events at Mokuren.
It was as if the gardens of Bawang (Kiyariko's shop) and Mokuren's garden were connected. It was such a natural connection that we were able to hold the exhibition.
This time, the theme is "Shuka," which has a connection to Suzaku in Nara.
Kobayashi will also be present on the first day.

Mata (Goddess) and the Earth,
Red is a color that symbolizes something to be feared.
The color gives off an unparalleled strength like the summer sun, and gets the blood flowing.
White calms that power and harmonizes it.
Black, which returns to nothingness and connects to new life.
There are various Indian fabrics that reflect the colors of the earth.
How does it work for us today?
It's as if something sealed away has been released. Feel that powerful something in the works of Calico and Maku.

Head of CALICO: the ART of INDLAN VILLAGE FABRICS.
The company was founded in 2012 in New Delhi, India. It focuses on the cultural background of handicrafts passed down in Indian villages and the identity and motivation of the artisans, and designs hand-spun, hand-woven, traditionally dyed and embroidered fabrics to be passed down to the future as modern traditions. It actively adopts materials such as native Indian cotton yarn and wool, and natural dyes such as Indian indigo, and is also involved in creating a system to popularize them. In 2021, CALICO: the BHAVAN will be established in Nara, Japan, as its base.
*During the event, a vase by Shimizu Yoshiyuki will be delivered and will add flowers.
